Ankara R04: Humpy joins Ruan Lufei in the lead

9/20/2012 – Indian GM Humpy Koneru defeated GM Tatiana Kosintseva, Russia, with the black pieces, while Chinese WGM Ruan Lufei conceded her first draw to compatriot Zhao Xue. This put the two winners in the joint lead with 3.5/4 points each – and performances of 2817 and 2749. Only one (hard-fought) game in this round was drawn, with for a 33.3% draw ration so far. From 15th to 29th September 2012 the sixth Women's Grand Prix is taking place in Ankara, the capital of Turkey and the country’s second largest city after Istanbul. It is the last of the 2011–2012 series of elite events organised by FIDE and Global Chess. The winner of each tournament takes home 6,500 Euros, the total prize fund is 40,000 Euros. The overall winner will get a further 15,000 Euros at the end of the series, and qualifies to challenge the Women's World Champion in 2013. Starting time of the games is 15:00h (check your local time here). The final round starts five hours earlier – at 10:00 a.m. local time. A single draw was recorded in the fourth round of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix in Ankara. The leader of the tournament Ruan Lufey (above left) lost her first half-point to compatriot Zhao Xue, after a long battle.

Humpy Koneru (above) defeated Tatiana Kosintseva and climbed to the top to share the first place with Ruan Lufei. The Indian GM was the only one in the round to win with the black pieces – all the other decisive games finished in favour of White.

Both Turkish players Betul Yildiz and Kubra Ozturk were outplayed by the rating favorites Ju Wenjun and Anna Muzychuk respectively.
