The Politiken Cup 2012 was a ten round Swiss tournament that ran from Saturday
July 28th to Sunday August 05th 2012 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The rate of play
was 90 min for 40 moves + 30 min for the rest of the game + 30 sec increment
for every move played starting from the first move. The prizes (in DKK): 1st
20,000 (€ 2700 or US $3,300), 2nd 18,000, 3rd 15,000, etc. The total
prize fund was € 4,700 = $5,800. The tiebrake system to decide the
main prizes: 1. Middle Buchholz, 2. Sonneborn-Berger.
GM Ivan Cheparinov from Bulgaria won the Politiken Cup 2012 on better tie break
than GM Ivan Sololov and GM Jonny Hector. All three scored 8 points out of 10
games in the tournament.
