Cheparinov wins the Politiken Cup 2012

14.8.2012 - Actually three players tied for first, with 8.0/10 points apiece, but the Bulgarian GM took the title on tiebreak points. The first thirteen places are all occupied by GMs (including legend Jan Timman). The first female is WGM Anna Rudolf in 29th place – amongst 292 participants in the tournament. We bring you an illustrated report with portraits of the most successful players.
 


The Politiken Cup 2012 was a ten round Swiss tournament that ran from Saturday July 28th to Sunday August 05th 2012 in Copenhagen, Denmark. The rate of play was 90 min for 40 moves + 30 min for the rest of the game + 30 sec increment for every move played starting from the first move. The prizes (in DKK): 1st 20,000 (€ 2700 or US $3,300), 2nd 18,000, 3rd 15,000, etc. The total prize fund was € 4,700 = $5,800. The tiebrake system to decide the main prizes: 1. Middle Buchholz, 2. Sonneborn-Berger.

GM Ivan Cheparinov from Bulgaria won the Politiken Cup 2012 on better tie break than GM Ivan Sololov and GM Jonny Hector. All three scored 8 points out of 10 games in the tournament.
