Kazan GP R06: four decisive games, Danielian leads

16.6.2012 - Today Armenian GM Elina Danielian defeated the second Kosintseva sister, Nadezhda, while her closest rival Anna Muzychuk drew her game against Alexandra Kosteniuk. Ukrainian GM Kateryna Lahno defeated former women's world champion Antoaneta Stefanova, and now Lahno and Muzychuk are in 2-3 position, half a point behind the leader. Report after round six.

From June 9 to 23, 2012 Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, will play host to the FIDE Women's Grand Prix, part of a series of elite events organised by FIDE and Global Chess. There will be six tournaments over two years in various countries around the world. The winner of each tournament takes home 6,500 Euros, the total prize fund is 40,000 Euros. The overall winner will get a further 15,000 Euros at the end of the series. Starting time of the games is 15:00h (check your local time here).

Round six

Elina Danielian (above left) won against Nadezhda Kosinteseva and for the second time became the sole leader in FIDE Women Grand Prix in Kazan. The Armenian GM chose the same variation which recently happened in her game against another Kosintseva sister Tatiana.

Playing with black Katerina Lahno (above) started to fight for initiative from the opening and tried to use a bad placement of white knight in the game against local celebrity Alisa Galliamova.

With very little time Alisa didn’t defend precisely and lost the game

Tatiana Kosintseva scored the first full point playing against Betul Yildiz (above right). The Turkish player underestimated Black’s attack on the queenside and didn’t use an opportunity to create conterplay on the kingside.

World champion Hou Yifan (above) got better position in the middle game against
Antoaneta Stefanova and later on created a decisive attack on Black’s king

The tense games Muzychuk-Kosteniuk and Koneru-Cmilite (above) ended in draws
