14.4.2011 - It was a carefully kept secret, known to only a few close friends. On April 9th came the phone call: Aruna Anand has delivered a healthy boy, mother and son are doing great. His named Akhil and, in the south Indian tradition, will be called Anand Akhil. Parents, relatives and friends are overjoyed. We celebrate with a pictorial review of the couple. Congratulations Vishy and Aruna!

CHENNAI April 14: World chess champion Viswanathan Anand has become a father after 14 years. Aruna Anand gave birth to a baby boy last Saturday at Apollo hospital at 6.35 am, much to the surprise of the chess world as the news was not known to many except a few close relatives of the chess ace.

  • NDTV Sports: Viswanathan Anand becomes a father
New Delhi April 13: Viswanathan Anand, the World Chess Champion, has decided to stay away from his game of glory for a month as he became a proud father of a boy on Saturday. Anand told a national daily that he has no idea what this will mean for his schedule since wife Aruna has been like his full time manager for the last 15 years that they have been married. "I'll have to learn a few new things pretty fast. I will enjoy doing all the baby things and being around Aruna and Akhil. We are a bit tired, partly because we have been so excited, but there is no joy that can match that of becoming parents. We have waited for this moment," Anand said.

  • Indian Express: On ‘top of the world’ again, Viswanathan Anand is a father
New Delhi, April 13: It's going to be a rare April for world champion Viswanathan Anand as he has decided to stay away from chess for the rest of the month. The change of priority came at 6.35 am on Saturday, when wife Aruna delivered a boy. And to make it a family of ‘As’, the first-time parents have decided to call him Akhil. “We haven’t told many people about Akhil’s arrival. We are on top of the world,” Aruna told The Indian Express today.
