Photo gallery by Farid Khayrulin

The President's Cup in Baku was extraordinarily well photographed, this year as in every year, by Farid Khayrulin of "FGF Digital STUDIO". You will find hundreds of great shots here. The pages are well worth a visit, especially if you are fond of children and inspired by the sight of them brooding over a chessboard.

Unfortunately none of Farid's photos are captioned, so that you either know the players or just enjoy the anonymous images. We have selected some we could identify and a series of lovely portraits we couldn't. The latter at at the end of the gallery and we ask our readers to supply the names of these unidentified players. Please use the feedback link on the left of this page, and give "Unidentified players" as the subject line.

GM Antoaneta Stefanova, 2538, BUL, 6.0 points, gets $600 for her 16th place

Viktor Korchnoi finished 18th with 6.0 points and got a nice carpet as a special prize

Korchnoi's wife Petra, one of our favourite people, got roses

A Bulgarian rose with an Azeri rose, one is tempted to say (Antoaneta Stefanova)

The rest of the pictures are of currently unidentified players. We rely on our readers to supply the correct names (using the feedback button on the left). How long will it take to fill in all the names? We will keep updating the captions as the information trickles in.

Six hours after publication all but one player, no. 11, had been identified. One day later we have him as well. Special thanks to Rustam Najafov of Baku, Azerbaijan, who identified the most difficult ones, and to Nigel Short, who provided the name of the sister of the deputy arbiter.
