Mexico 2007: Vishy Anand is world champion!

29.9.2007 - An effortless 20-move draw against Peter Leko clinched it: Indias's Viswanathan Anand won the World Championship in Mexico City 2007 to become the undisputed World Chess Champion. The other games are still in progress, but nobody can catch Anand, who finishes undefeated with 9.0 points out of 14 games. Kramnik beat Aronian to move to second place. Express report.
 

World Championship 2007 Mexico

The World Championship 2007 is taking place from September 12 to 30 in the Sheraton Centro Histórico Hotel in Mexico City. Eight players are qualified – the tournament is a double round robin. The prize fund is US $1.3 million.

Final standings

The final column of the above table give the tiebreak numbers, according to Sonneborn-Berger. A player's SB score is calculated by adding the sum of the conventional scores of the players they have defeated to half the sum of the conventional scores of those they have drawn against. According to this system Vladimir Kramnik is second, beating Boris Gelfand by 0.25 SB points. However, the official report of the chief arbiter is still pending.
