7/23/2013 – Yesterday all the games were drawn, today all brought decisions: Etienne Bacrot beat Ding Linren with white, while Alexander Moiseenko and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave overcame Richard Rapport and Ian Nepomniachtchi with the black pieces. GM Tournament in memoriam Olivier Breisacher

The GM tournament this year is in memory of Olivier Breisacher, who for more than 15 years looked after the organisation, reporting and external communications around the grandmasters tournament in Biel. The tournament is a ten-round double round robin, played from July 22nd to August 1st, with games starting at 2 p.m. local time.

Richard Rapport (above left) came out well from this B31 Sicilian but over-optimistically sacrificed a pawn and never recovered from the advantage it gave...

... the winner of this game Alexander Moiseenko

Etienne Bacrot (above) was not doing too well against Ding Liren's King's Indian...

... but the Chinese GM grabbed a pawn and got a position that he could not defend.

Maxime Vachier-Lagrave gained a small advantage in a Grünfeld and ground down...

... Russian GM Ian Nepomniachtchi, who had to resign after 63 moves.
