SportAccord World Mind Games
These games are a multi-sport event that highlight the value of
the mind sports. The current (second) edition is taking place in Beijing, China,
from December 12 to 19, with the following games: bridge, chess, draughts, Go
and Xiangqi (Chinese chess). There are three western chess events, each staged
on two days, featuring a number of very strong players. In the men's section
fifteen of the sixteen participants are ranked higher than 2700, with the average
rating at 2745 (= category 20). In the women's section the average rating is
2521, with most of the world's top ranked players participating.
In the Men's Rapid Laurent Fressinet and Hikaru Nakamura tied
for first with 5.5/7 points each, with the French Champion, who is the second
lowest seed in this event, beating the top US grandmaster (live ratings), who
is the fourth highest, on tiebreak points.

In the Women's Rapid four players tied for first
with 5.0/7 points: Kateryna Lahno, Hou Yifan, Humpy Koneru and Anna Muzychuk,
with Ukrainian GM Lahno winning on tie-break points.

In the Men's Blitz former Ukrainian child prodigy
Sergey Karjakin, currently ranked number six in the world, finished with a one-point
lead over his nearest rival Hikaru Nakamura.
In the Women's Blitz former Women's World Champion
GM Alexandra Kosteniuk, ranked number 17 in the women's world ratings, ahead
of Slovenian GM Anna Muzychuk, who is number three.
The Blindfold Events are being held on Tuesday
and Wednesday (Dec. 18 + 19).
