The Fourth International Open Chess Festival «Moscow Open 2008»
is taking place in the Russian State Social University (RSSU) from the 2nd to
the 10th of February 2008. The Festival consists of four tournaments: Open A,
Tournament B, the Women's Open C and a Children Tournament D. Each of these
tournaments is a nine-round Swiss. The total guaranteed prize fund is 5,000,000
rubels = US $205,760.
Report after seven rounds
In round one Ernesto Inarkiev, rated 2681 and third seed in this event, lost
to FM Okara Andrey, rated 2402 and 158th seed. What a shock. But Inarkiev recovered
from it very nicely, thank you, and won the next six games – all six of
them. He is now in the lead group of three GMs, Timofeev, Popov and him. They
are followed by nine players with 5½ points each. We miss Alexander Riazantsev
in this group, the player who won his first four games and was in the leading
group in our last report. Since then Riazantsev drew a game and lost one, to
descend to the group of 32 players with 5/7 points.
