Garry Kasparov has retired from competitive chess and remains at his last rating of 2812. Veselin Topalov gained 19 points to take second place, nine points ahead of Vishy Anand, who gained four. Peter Svidler picked up 25 points to make it to place four, and the Armenian super-talent Levon Aronian gained 28 to make place five. Vladimir Kramnik gained two and Peter Leko lost eleven to take the next two places.
Other big gainers are Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (+35), Zahar Efimenko (+29), Vladimir Malakhov (+24), and Evgeny Bareev (+23). Most points lost were by Emil Sutovsky and Sergey Tiviakov (-30), Judit Polgar (-24). With that Judit dropped from place eight to 14.
The oldest player in the top 100 list is Dr Robert Hübner, who is 57 and place 81 in the world. The youngest players are Sergey Karjakin at place 42 (Elo 2660) and Magnus Carlsen, place 89 (2625), both 15 years old. The youngest player in all four lists is Dronavalli Harika of India, number 13 amongst the girls, Elo 2396 and 14 years old.

The following table shows chess nations ranked by the average of their top ten players. Russia is easily in the lead, and also has by far the most GMs, IMs and titled players. Ukraine is second, the US is third. Surprisingly we find France in place four, ahead of Armenia, Hungary, China and Israel. From the point of view of total number of titled players Russia is in the lead, second is Germany, third Serbia and Montenegro, followed by USA and Ukraine.
