GamesReport

Svidler-Morozevich: This was a very complicated, very uncompromising game, with both sides having winning chances at different stages of the game. Interesting to study, it ended in a draw after 43 moves.

Peter Svidler vs Alexander Morozevich. In the
background Vladimir Kramnik vs Alexey Dreev.

Tomashevsky-Zvaginsev: A Symmetrical English in which the 19-year-old Evgeny Tomashevsky came out of the opening with a good position, developed it steadily to defeat his nominally much stronger opponent.

Alexander Motylev vs Evgeny Bareev, with
Alexander Morozevich kibitzing

Motylev-Bareev: This Caro Kann looked fine for Black until at move 19 he sacrificed an exchange which never really worked out. Alexander Motylev worked it to an endgame of rook and opposite colored bishops in which White had two pawns to none for Black. It took Motylev over twenty moves to grind a victory out of that.
