World Ladies Tournament in Jinan

Report by Ali Nihat Yazici

This beautiful and very enjoyable tournament is unfortunately over, most of us are back home, still dreaming of the great time we had in the Chinese metropolis of Jinan. We brought you three extensive pictorial reports, the final results and the games. Today we offer you one more look back at the final day of the tournament. We start with some pictures of the players still at work.

Hou Yifan, a great Chinese talent

As a journalist, president and chess person I must draw your attention to this young lady, Miss Hou Yifan. Take a good look at her – we are introducing you to a future women's world champion. Hou is just eleven years old, and her official rating is 2158. But her performance in Jinan was 2400. She is a great talent and I predict that she may soon become the youngest GM in the world. Not WGM, but GM!

Here again are the final results of the World Ladies Tournament in Jinan.

The Closing Ceremony

The tournament started and finished with the same intensity. The closing ceremony was very much like a world women championship prize-giving. The ladies were all beautifully dressed, the ceremony began with the prize giving, after which singers and dance groups came on to stage.
