Group 5, Thursday, 03rd June, 20.00 CEST (GMT +2)
Tournament Director: David Llada
The three qualifiers are Tigran Petrosian, Mikhail Kobalia and Igor Glek
The final of the third ACP tournament will be held on Saturday, June 5th 2004 at 16:00h CEST (Berlin/Paris, = GMT +2). This translates to 18:00h Moscow, 15:00h London and 10 a.m. New York. The location is the special ACP tournament room on the Playchess.com server. The tournament will be directed by Martin Fischer, who will be online around 15.30 for last minute questions.
The final will be played according to a mode chess fans may remember from the Dortmund 2002 GM tournament (and from soccer). There will be four groups, each with four players. These groups will play a round robin match tournament (four-game matches). The two best players of each group will reach the knockout stage, starting with the quarterfinals. From here on there will be four-game matches, with possible tiebreaks in the case of a 2:2 score.
The time-control is 4 minutes for all the moves, 1 second increment per move, throughout the whole tournament. You can find the rules and schedule here. The four groups have been put together according to the current FIDE rating: group 1 has players 1, 8, 9 and 16, Group 2 players 2, 7, 10 and 15, etc.
