The Classical Chess World Championship will be held (possibly at the Centro Dannemann in Brissago, on the shores of the Lago Maggiore, Switzerland) from September 25 until October 18, 2004. A total of 14 games is to be played under classical time controls. Vladimir Kramnik is defending the title he won from Garry Kasparov in 2000 against Hungarian GM Peter Leko, who qualified at the Dortmund Candidates in 2002.
Centro Dannemann has revealed that an agreement was reached with both players today on the conditions of the match and the world-wide rights on this event. The players, co-sponsors and the exact location of the match will be revealed in a special presentation in April or May 2004. Invitations will go out next week.
