The European Clubs Cup 2003 is being stage in the city of Rethymnon, Crete. The venue is the Creta Star Hotel in the city of Rethymnon. On October 2nd five rounds have been completed, the two final rounds will be played on October 3rd and 4th.

There are 45 men's club teams and thirteen women's teams, with four boards per team. In the men's section the Russian team of Ladya Kazan is leading with 23.5 points, ahead of the French NAO chess club (sponsored by Mme Nahed Ojjeh) with 21.5 points.


Kasparov in Crete – heading for a performance record

In the following table we give you the top ten performers after round five. We have only calculated the values for players who have played at least four games. Note that the performance does not depend on the absolute score but takes the strength of the opponents into consideration.

The performance rating for Garry Kasparov is not a misprint. He beat Vladimir Chuchelov (2608), Baadur Jobava (2596), Konstantin Sakaev (2655) and Alexander Grischuk (2732).
