Deep Fritz? Never heard of it...

by ChessBase
11/5/2002 – It was a great shame. Last Friday one of the candidates of the Austrian version of "Who wants to be a millionaire?" blew a lot of money by not knowing which program had played against Vladimir Kramnik in Bahrain. High Paul, Wide Andy, Near Peter or Deep Fritz? Mon dieu, she didn't know! The correct answer would have got her $5000 and a ticket into the next round. More...

Winning starts with what you know
The new version 18 offers completely new possibilities for chess training and analysis: playing style analysis, search for strategic themes, access to 6 billion Lichess games, player preparation by matching Lichess games, download Chess.com games with built-in API, built-in cloud engine and much more.

The question was simple: What was the name of the electronic chess program that played against world champion Vladimir Kramnik? The alternatives are visible in the picture above.

The candidate freezes. They all sound just like "electronic chess programs", don't they? Well there went the money, and a chance to earn a great deal more.

So what we learn from this unfortunate incident is clear: if you really want to become a millionaire, really, really want to become a millionaire, then you must keep abreast with the latest news. Visiting the ChessBase.com site regularly is a first step. And remember: in December Garry Kasparov is going to play Deep Purple. Or was it Deep Senior? Deep Blue? Deep Junior?

You will find the correct answer on our web site in the next few weeks.
